Chapter 24 - Diabetic Emergencies
The concentration of blood glucose is expressed in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). Normal blood glucose values vary from person to person but generally average 60 to 140 mg/dL. According to the NDIC's Diabetes Dictionary, hypoglycemia is defined as < 70 mg/dL. Hyperglycemia is simply defined as "excessive." Local protocols defining these terms and their treatment vary.
